50th Anniversary

Handover

Our year started with Albert Crannis taking over from Peter Webb as President at our annual handover on the 1st July 2007. Many members and their wives were present to see this event and enjoy the occasion. Congratulations to Roger Champion, who is our one and only remaining Charter Member He has served the community through the  Club from the very beginning of Tenterden Lions. What a fantastic achievement.

Tour de France

The Club were straight into serving the community 7 days later at the Tour de France.

1st September - Barbeque & Boule at Smarden, enjoyed by allRelaxation

After the success and hard work put in for the Tour de France, we relaxed over a hot barbeque on a lovely September day. The surroundings were delightful,  set in idyllic English Countryside.

 A Little Disappointment

We had booked a stall at the Weald of Kent Ploughing Match on the 15tth of September but this was sadly cancelled at the last minute due to Foot & Mouth.

 Celebration

On the 29th September we had a celebratory reception at Tenterden Town Hall. We had a thoroughly good evening  meeting up with Lions & Lions partners from  past years.

Congratulations, in particular, to Roger Champion who was a founder(Charter) member of Tenterden Lions when it started in 1957. What an achievement.

New Year Social

Over 40 of us enjoyed a meal in Bethersden with plenty of chat and laughter. A sort of grown up version of pass the parcel created some good fun!

Newcomers

In February we were delighted to induct 2 new Lions Members. Congratulations to Peter & Phil - do they know what they have let themselves in for?

Brain Teaser

In February, a Lions Team came 9th (out of 15) at a quiz organised by the Tenterden supporters group of the Pilgrims Hospice. It was an enjoyable evening at the Tenterden Junior School with ploughman's and good company. The Lions were pleased to support this very worthwhile cause.

A Night to Remember - 50th Charter Anniversary at the Rare Breeds!

(May 17th 2008)

Brian organised a superb evening - an excellent meal, good music together with  enjoyable speeches and special presentations. Tenterden Lions and Ladies were out in force led by President Albert and Joyce and were joined by Lions  from all around  this beautiful corner of England. We were graced by Tenterden Town Mayor and Mayoress, the President of Rotary and his wife as well as the Lions District Governor and our very own Zone Chairman John.

It was a great way to celebrate our 50th Anniversary. We were able to make a special presentation to RogerChampion, our one and only Charter Member, who was in at the start, ably supported by his wife Liz.    Here are a few pictures of the occasion taken by David, our super master of ceremonies and teller of Irish jokes:
