50th Anniversary
Handover
Our year started with Albert Crannis taking over from Peter Webb as President at our annual handover on the 1st July 2007. Many members and their wives were present to see this event and enjoy the occasion. Congratulations to Roger Champion, who is our one and only remaining Charter Member He has served the community through the Club from the very beginning of Tenterden Lions. What a fantastic achievement.

Tour de France
The Club were straight into serving the community 7 days later at the Tour de France.
Relaxation
After the success and hard work put in for the Tour de France, we relaxed over a hot barbeque on a lovely September day. The surroundings were delightful, set in idyllic English Countryside.
A Little Disappointment
We had booked a stall at the Weald of Kent Ploughing Match on the 15tth of September but this was sadly cancelled at the last minute due to Foot & Mouth.
Celebration
On the 29th September we had a celebratory reception at Tenterden Town Hall. We had a thoroughly good evening meeting up with Lions & Lions partners from past years.
Congratulations, in particular, to Roger Champion who was a founder(Charter) member of Tenterden Lions when it started in 1957. What an achievement.

A Pilgrim's Supper
In October, a number of Lions supported the Pilgrims Hospices at a fund raising meal in St Michaels. Our Treasurer, Ray, was pleased to present the local organiser, Carol Stevens, with a £500 cheque at the Dinner.

Back to the soil
In November the Lions planted a few more (1000) bulbs in Tenterden High Street. Roll on the Spring when all will be able to enjoy another display of Daffodils & Crocuses.
A Little Giving
A cheque was presented to Hi-Kent to finance the hearing service provided at the Tenterden Day Centre.
A Little Peace
A competition was arranged, through Homewood School, for 11 to 13 year olds to produce a poster. The theme was 'Peace Around The World'
Lions Mike & David with the 2 winners. Thanks to all who put in a poster.
Good Cheer
The new Christmas Float was built with the help of Homewood School and was ready in time for Father Christmas to start his rounds on the 4th December. The full story can be found here.
We had a tremendous reponse to our new float with Father Christmas appreciated by all. People were very generous and we collected more than ever before. Additional information can be found at Christmas Float
The Collections outside Tesco

New Year Social
Over 40 of us enjoyed a meal in Bethersden with plenty of chat and laughter. A sort of grown up version of pass the parcel created some good fun!
Newcomers
In February we were delighted to induct 2 new Lions Members. Congratulations to Peter & Phil - do they know what they have let themselves in for?
Brain Teaser
In February, a Lions Team came 9th (out of 15) at a quiz organised by the Tenterden supporters group of the Pilgrims Hospice. It was an enjoyable evening at the Tenterden Junior School with ploughman's and good company. The Lions were pleased to support this very worthwhile cause.
Spring is Sprung
The 29th February 2008 and the Bulbs,
planted by the Lions, provide a splendid display
along Tenterden High Street.
Dig that Hat
The Lions and friends were again out on the High Street and outside Tesco's collecting on behalf of that very worthy cause - Marie Curie. .
Who is that man in the hat!
Socialising again! (but on behalf of William Harvey Hospital)

A Night to Remember - 50th Charter Anniversary at the Rare Breeds!
(May 17th 2008)
Brian organised a superb evening - an excellent meal, good music together with enjoyable speeches and special presentations. Tenterden Lions and Ladies were out in force led by President Albert and Joyce and were joined by Lions from all around this beautiful corner of England. We were graced by Tenterden Town Mayor and Mayoress, the President of Rotary and his wife as well as the Lions District Governor and our very own Zone Chairman John.
It was a great way to celebrate our 50th Anniversary. We were able to make a special presentation to RogerChampion, our one and only Charter Member, who was in at the start, ably supported by his wife Liz. Here are a few pictures of the occasion taken by David, our super master of ceremonies and teller of Irish jokes:
